Bristol Airport (IATA: BRS, ICAO: EGGD) is a commercial airport located at Lulsgate Bottom in North Somerset. It serves the city of Bristol, England, United Kingdom and the counties of Gloucestershire and Somerset. The airport is located 13 km (8.1 mi) southwest of downtown Bristol.
Bristol Airport was built on the site of a former RAF airfield and opened in 1957 as Bristol (Lulsgate) Airport, replacing the former Bristol (Whitchurch) Airport as Bristol's municipal airport. Between 1997 and 2010 it was known as Bristol International Airport. The ownership of the airport changed several times, in 1997 the majority of shares were sold to FirstGroup and later in 2001 the airport was sold to a joint venture lead by Macquarie Group. In 2010 the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan become the main shareholder after it bought out Macquarie Group's shares.
