Air Traffic Control (ATC) is an important part of aviation. The term refers to the service provided by ground based controllers who provide directions to aircraft transiting a specific airspace. The main goal of ATC is to provide a safe separation between aircraft flying in their control area. This way ATC prevents collisions, expedites the flow of traffic and provides information and support to pilots.
In certain countries the ATC has also a security or defensive role and it is run by the military.
