The USS Truxtun (DDG-103) is a US Navy Arleigh Burke class destroyer. The ship's keel was laid down on 11 April 2005 and two years later on 17 April 2007 she was launched. Another two years passed until the commissioning ceremony was held on 25 April 2009 in Charleston, South Carolina. The USS Truxtun's first commanding officer was Commander Timothy Weber.

Design and construction
The ship was christened on 2 June 2007 at NGSS Ingalls in Pascagoula, Mississippi and was sponsored by Susan Scott Martin and Carol Leigh Roelker, descendants of Thomas Truxtun
Naming
The ship is named after American Naval hero and the founding father of the US Navy, Commodore Thomas Truxtun (1755–1822). This ship is the sixth U.S. naval vessel to bear his name.
Technology
Operational Service
On 6 March 2014 the USS Truxtun left Greece on the way to the Black Sea. The ship was going to conduct several training exercises with the Romanian and Bulgarian navies. On 5 March 2014 the Turkish authorities approved the warship to pass through the Bosphorus Straits.
The exercises and the U.S. show of force – sending two Arleigh Burke class destroyers to the Black Sea was intended to reassure former Soviet republics and satellites in the aftermath of Russian actions in Crimea, Ukraine.

Incidents
On 20 May 2006 the USS Truxtun suffered a major electrical fire during the construction at Ingalls Shipbuilding, Pascagoula, Mississippi. The fire engulfed two levels and caused damage that is believed to have been in the millions of dollars.
Popular culture
The USS Truxtun served as the filming location for the movie Captain Phillips, standing in for the USS Bainbridge
