- 10 January 2000 - Crossair Flight 498, a Crossair Saab 340B commuter flight from Zurich, Switzerland to Dresden, Germany crashed two minutes after takeoff at about 7km from the airport. The official report concluded that the cause of the crash was due to loss of control resulting from human error.

- 13 January 2012 - Costa Concordia disaster - The cruise ship Costa Concordia while navigating in calm seas under command of Captain Francesco Schettino struck a rock in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the eastern shore of Isola del Giglio , where she grounded just 500 north of the village of Giglio Porto.

- 9 January 2021 - Sriwijaya Air Flight 182 was a scheduled domestic passenger flight operated by Sriwijaya Air from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang to Supadio International Airport, Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. The flight was operated with a Boeing 737-524 but it shortly disappeared from radar just four minutes after departure. Later it was confirmed that the aircraft crashed in the waters of the Thousand Islands, 19 km (12 mi; 10 nmi) from the airport.
